  Woodwork and Old Bodgers

My latest hobby is green woodworking. I wrote about my hobby in a book called Simple Pleasures, published by the National Trust, and I recently received this lovely email from someone who read the book.

In August 2013 I attended SpoonFest - The International Celebration of the Carved Spoon in Edale, Derbyshire. I had a wonderful time there and met some terrific people. I saw some truly inspirational people making the most beautiful wooden spoons.

Here are some very useful woodworking links.......

And here are some things that I have made...........

I spend a lot of time on trains, and I often carve a spoon or two on the journey, much to the amusement of my fellow passengers.

Subject: Gudrun & Green Woodworking

 Hi Adam

I wanted to thank you for your contribution to the book Simple Pleasures. My friend bought the book for me as a present and when I read your chapter on Green Woodworking I was fascinated and felt something stir inside me…

Two years later and last weekend I found myself on the introduction course with Gudrun. What a fantastic weekend I had! It was just as you described it. The peace of the woods, the focus, energy and concentration of the woodworkers and Gudrun’s inspiration (and cooking) all made it a wonderful experience.

We even camped in a hut with 2 degrees in the night so the the bucket shower in the morning and the kettle on the campfire was a definite highlight!. I sit at work this morning a proud owner of a “hobbit stool” with a smile on my face and the smell of the campsite still in my hair.

Why am I writing to you? To thank you for your inspiration. If you hadn’t contributed to the Simple Pleasures book, I would never have met Gudrun and spent a wonderful weekend doing something that makes my heart truly sing.

I loved seeing that you carve spoons on the train on your website. That is my next project…

Many many heartfelt thanks.

Caroline
